Project description

A reservoir optimization program was implemented in a mature oil field in the Caspian Basin to improve waterflood sweep efficiency and increase oil recovery from heterogeneous carbonate reservoirs. The project involved the deployment of chemical and radioactive tracers across six injection wells to map inter-well communication, identify thief zones, and quantify injection water breakthrough times. Data from the tracer study was integrated with existing geological models and production history to redesign the injection strategy. Injection rates and pressures were reallocated across the pattern, and two wells were converted from production to injection to improve areal sweep. Within six months, the field recorded a 12–15% increase in oil recovery factor and a significant reduction in water cut across the monitored producers.
